This week, Beverly Bambury answers some of our questions about publicity and marketing!
SpAN: Can you describe the services you offer?
Beverly B: I do publicity and marketing for authors and other creative folks. This can range from consulting and coaching all the way up to full traditional publicity campaigns.
SpAN: What are the most commonly asked questions authors ask when seeking information from you?
Beverly B: I get asked a lot about the best ways to use (or not use) social media. I also am often asked what the best way is to find and approach reviewers. I can talk about these things at great length!
SpAN: What are the things you notice most about how authors promote themselves that can be improved?
Beverly B: The main thing is to find the time for promotion. It is unpleasant for many writers, and I get that, but particularly if you are self-published or small press, you need to make the time for it. I see a lot of procrastination or “it’s too hard” kinds of behaviours. Well, friends, I am here to tell you that you can definitely do it, or if you are privileged enough to be able to hire someone to do it, that is great, too!
SpAN: Many emerging and/or indie authors are apprehensive of the cost of hiring a publicist. What do you recommend for those on a limited budget?
Beverley B: If you’re on a limited budget then consider coaching/consulting. It helps you can identify what your next steps are, and gives you someone with experience (ideally!) to help you sort out what is urgent from what can wait, and much more. If your budget does not allow for consulting, there are free downloads with tons of info all over the internet if you search for how to market your book. You likely need to agree to sign up for an email list to get the download, but it is well worth it if you are really on a shoestring budget.
SpAN: Where can people find more info about your rates, business, and materials?
Beverly B: Speaking of free downloads, on my website there is a popup where you can join my infrequently used list and get a pdf that breaks down the promotion process in a step-by-step manner. I’ve gotten lots of compliments, so I think it’s useful and I encourage you to check it out. I also do affordable coaching using Patreon as a platform, and you can find that at patreon.com/BeverlyBookPR. Finally, I am all up in the socials. Just search my name to find me on just about any major platform that exists.
