Spoonie Art Gallery: Jamieson Wolf

Editor’s note: This series is about our contributors showcasing the art they do apart from writing, and what it means to them. Each week we’ll feature a new artist!

“For me, painting is another way to tell a story. Sometimes I get stuck in a story or novel that I’m working on and painting helps to clear the way. Also, often an idea will pop into my mind for a story, but it’s a visual idea, not one of words. I paint because it’s another way to find my voice.”

Featured Pieces: Growth, Flow, and Bloom

Green abstract painting, giving the impression of old and new leaves growing in a jungle. There's combination of light and darkness that adds depth to this work.
Growth is all about the growing that I’ve been doing. I wanted it to resemble leaves in a jungle, struck by the sun. I wanted to reflect the darkness within me and the light in some way.
A blue abstract with white peaks, like rushing waters.
Flow is about the flow of my emotions. To help me grow further, I wanted a visual representation of the emotions within me, flowing and changing and becoming something different, something more.
A dark purple abstract with light purple blotches, strongly resembling opening petals in the morning light.
Bloom is about shedding becoming. I feel like I’m blooming into to who I was meant to be all along. I wanted it to look like flowers, opening up to the sunlight.
