Thank you for making 2017 an incredible year for The Spoonie Authors Network!

I am just gobsmacked by the undiluted talent of the contributors to this blog. You make me so proud to be your editor. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you share with us in 2018!

And to our readers, again, thank you for following us and leaving comments. Some of you became contributors, too! We are always looking for new articles, so please feel free to contact us using the Submissions form.

Highlights of the year:

• In 2017, we went from three contributors to eighteen! Wow!
• The SpAN built stronger representation of invisible and visible disabilities and/or chronic conditions. (The goal is to keep it coming!)
• SpAN Contributor Amy M. Young designed our two-spoon logo, which we love.
• In the summer of 2017, Seven-Time Aurora-Award Winner Derek Newman-Stille invited this humble SpAN editor to talk about characters with disabilities and The Spoonie Authors Network in his Trent Radio Show, Speculating Canada.
• At Can-Con 2017, SpAN contributors Jamieson Wolf, Nathan Fréchette, ’Nathan Burgoine, Cait Gordon, Talia Johnson, and Derek Newman-Stille hosted a panel called Spooning with Spoonies: Sexuality and Disability.
• In November 2017, I was invited to talk about The Spoonie Authors Network on Mony Dojeiji’s TV Show, The Author’s Journey (video coming in early 2018).

But honestly, every time I edit a post from a contributor, it’s a highlight for me. So: *gestures at the entire blog*

Going forward in 2018

My first wish for 2018 is that we all have as many spoons as we need to live fully. May you have three drawers full of spoons each day! And if you don’t, I pray you have the supports you need to help you manage your spoons.

In 2017, a proposal I submitted to Renaissance press had been approved, and we’re hoping to collaborate on an anthology, where all the works will be from people with disabilities and/or chronic conditions. I shall be meeting with Renaissance in the new year to discuss this, so stay tuned! It will be great to offer a paid opportunity for spoonie authors!

Alas, this network still has no funding, so we will not be able to pay contributors for 2018. However, if anyone has suggestions for patronage and sponsors, please contact us.
